Geography of Kenya


  Kenya's topography is extreme because of / since there are very high points (above 5.000m).
  • Although / while Lake Victoria is the largest in Africa,Kenya has very few renewable fresh water resources.
  • Agriculture dominates the economy whereas / however / even if only 10% of the land is arable.
  • Tourism is the second sector since/as there are / thanks to / with / its 60 National Parks.
  • Not only Kenya is a leading producer of tea and coffee but also the 3rd largest exporter of cut flowers.

 ECONOMY NEEDS NATURE

The flower industry

Advantage :  crucial for the national economy (jobs, income GDP)
Drawbacks / Issues :
  • Impact on environment / insecticides /Chemicals from industry
  • No fish left (decimated) : bad for fishermen and population.
  • Lake dried out
Solutions :

  • Use natural insecticides (tiny beetles)
  • (idea : reintroduce other fish species)
