Edward Loure the masai who defend with his laws his areas
Edward Loure is a Massaï, he was born in tanzania and is
popular because he has received in April 18th in San Francisco
the Goldman Prize for the Environment 2016, because he
protecd his environment and his ancestral life style thanks to his
laws. How did he do ?
Edward Loure is 40 years old, he lives in Simanjiro but since
1950 this area is in danger because there are a lot of creations
of nationals parks this is the first problem: the Massaï have to
go out side of this nationals parks. Therefore they can’t continue
their ancestral life style. And secondly animals can’t migrate.
There is a second problem : government sells areas for hunters and
illegal breeding therefore the Massaï can't live with out land law.
Edward loure was motivated thanks to his reasons, he joins the
Ujamaa Community Resource Team (UCRT) the first ONG
to defend laws of ancestral population. They have found a
solution a law to defend a culture and community they create
a certificate to defend this law.
He created the first certificate in 2004 and have given
90 000 hectare for ancestral population, they created
similarly 16 certificate for ancestral population, it is the good
way but it is necessary to continue this work
