Local initiative :Gender equality in South Africa by Armand

Promoting gender equality and empowering women in South Africa :

This initiative aims to get rid of gender discrimination in South Africa (in other various countries such as : Brazil, China, Angola, and India) in order to give women the same treatment, opportunities, rights and respect as men. The project was launched by the International Labour Organisation took place between 1st May 2012 and 31th March 2014, and the main partnership was the government of Norway.

Indeed, despite the current legislative policies, gender inequalities still remains an issue in workplaces/society : some women having a important role in workplaces still get poorly paid compare to men who possess the same role.

The main goal of the project is to improve gender equality and women's economy in workplaces by highlighting workplaces where men and women, both get equal opportunities and treatment.
Also the project is focused to deal with "violence against women" and "sexual harassement" as well as improving working conditions in workplaces. The ILO aims to use "social dialogue", which appears to be very beneficial towards the goal of gender equality.
