The Xhosa people by Armand

This following ethnic group from South Africa, is mainly located in Eastern and Western Cape. The total population throughout South Africa raises to 7.8 million.

At the beginning the Xhosa people took part of the Bantu migrations which is a series of migrations that took place from Southern Zaire to various areas of the Africa south of Sahara. The Xhosa people is the group which immigrate the most to the south among all the groups of the Bantu migrations.
Starting from the 18th century the Xhosa people settled in Eastern Cape.  In 1705 the Xhosa people went to war against the Dutch-Afrikaners farmers.  Given that the Xhosa changed sides from British to Dutch, battles against the Xhosa increased, including against the Zulu. In the 19th century the British increased their domination over the Eastern Cape.
Between 1830 and 1840 the battles in which the Xhosa people were facing the British resulted in the defeat of the Xhosa and the privation of their effective power. Some areas were gained by the British, but the Xhosa’s areas were preserved as autonomous areas and in 1910 they became administrative districts of the Union of South Africa.
